Longtan does not have many songs, but every one of them has a name.
This piece gives you the names first, then the places you should not drive to for the sake of a microphone. Guanyin is one of them.
The two on record in Longtan
Open the Longtan KTV list and you get two entries.
Baifenbai Karaoke (百分百視聽歌唱) sits in the town centre, 4.7 stars from 32 reviews. The sign is not new and the songbook is thick; rooms are few, regulars are many, and after eight in the evening a free room is a small miracle. Phone before you go. Do not trust the satnav alone.
The other is Mingrentang KTV (名人堂KTV) at No. 150, Lane 141, Minsheng Rd, 4.8 stars from 30 reviews. What makes it different is upstairs: the seventh floor of the same building is Mingrentang Rooftop Aromatherapy SPA (名人堂景觀舒壓芳療SPA), five stars from 65 reviews. Sing until your voice goes, take the lift, and there is a massage bed waiting. Nowhere else in Longtan puts singing and a spa under one address.
Both are small. That is not a flaw. That is Longtan’s size.
Karaoke shops: they exist, we do not name them
Along Zhongzheng Rd and Beilong Rd there are a handful of small karaoke shops, songbooks and a song-selection screen by the door, one drink and you sing all night. Longtan has always had them. They just turn over fast. This year’s sign is next year’s something else.
We leave them unnamed, not because we have never been, but because we would rather not send you to a shutter that has already come down. If you want one, walk Zhongzheng Rd and look for the blue glow of a song screen leaking out a doorway.
Guanyin: one, and you have to book the house
Honestly, Guanyin has no KTV.
The single listing is SNA VILLA (SNA VILLA 品牌招待空間民宿) at No. 1-99, Dahu Rd Sec. 2, five stars from 104 reviews. It is a whole-villa guesthouse with karaoke attached: you book the house, take the entire building, and only then does a microphone appear. A dozen people wanting a place to stay and sing until dawn, it works. One person wanting an hour of singing on a Wednesday night, it does not.
Guanyin’s night has other leads: the sunset over Caota Dunes, sea wind beside Baisha Cape Lighthouse, stir-fry on Zhongshan Rd after dark. The Guanyin guide says it plainly, this district does not owe you a nightlife. For singing, Highway 66 puts you in Zhongli in 30 minutes. Do not spend that drive hunting for a room that does not exist.
Reading the price
Small rooms at NT$300 to 500 an hour is the usual band in Longtan.
Weekday afternoons are mostly discounted; the same room can cost close to double on a Saturday night. Some houses charge by time-slot package, and whether a minimum spend or drinks are included varies, so ask for the total in one sentence when you book. Actual prices follow each house’s posted notice; this article quotes nobody.
Headcount is the other threshold. Both houses run rooms built for four to six people. Above that, no song system is new enough to make it comfortable.
Big rooms mean Zhongli
Provincial Highway 3B, or National Freeway 3 from the Longtan interchange, and 25 minutes later you are beside Zhongli SOGO: Cashbox Zhongli Zhongyang (錢櫃 中壢中央店) with over four thousand reviews, Holiday KTV Zhongli (凱悅 中壢店) at 4.8 stars, plenty of rooms, steady late sessions, and still bookable-only on Friday and Saturday. Longtan as the quiet first half, Zhongli as the loud second half, is how southern Taoyuan usually plays it. The reverse works too, sing in Zhongli first and drive back to Longtan on an emptier road.
After the last song: Zhongxing Rd
Microphone down, Longtan’s closing act gathers on Zhongxing Rd.
Shengmachi Izakaya (勝町 日式居酒屋) at No. 572 Zhongxing Rd, 4.9 stars from 582 reviews, is the most reviewed izakaya in Longtan, skewers and sake, and a weekend booking is the safer move. For heat, Dawang Mala Izakaya Longtan (大王麻辣居酒屋龍潭店) at No. 65 Yulong Rd carries 283 reviews. For a quiet drink, Dengdeng Bar (等等Bar-有瀏海的咖啡廳) at No. 367 Minzhi Rd has 309 reviews and Xun Pub (醺 pub) at No. 14 Wufu St has 35, two very different sizes of the same idea. Massage is on the same road. Longxing Wellness (龍興養生館) at No. 485-1 Zhongxing Rd has 335 reviews, Manzuyuan Meridian Wellness (滿足緣經絡養生館) at No. 294 has 241. Sing, then get pressed, one street does it all. The Longtan massage list has the rest.
If you drank, hand it to a designated driver or a taxi. Cars in Longtan at night are not the hail-anywhere kind Zhongli has, so call one before you leave the izakaya. Not drinking?
