Late-Night Eating at Zhongli Station: Supper Before and After the Last Train

QUICK ANSWER:Station-front supper is split by the last train. Before eleven, people catching it eat snacks or sit in an izakaya at NT$150 to NT$300 a head; after it leaves, hot food thins out and what remains is bars, karaoke and the foot-massage shops on Jianxing Rd behind the station. Only Friday and Saturday run to three or four in the morning — skip Sunday. If you drank, taxi or designated driver. Check the TRA timetable for the last train.

Zhongli station is a clock.

People on the front side read it to know when the night ends; people on the rear side read it to know when theirs begins. Supper at the station was never a question of what to eat. It is a question of whether the last train has gone.

Front and rear: two different nights

Out the front exit is the Zhongzheng Rd and Zhongyang W. Rd side, the commercial face of the district, brightest lights, densest stalls. Ten minutes along Yuanhua Rd and Xinsheng Rd is SOGO; that SOGO night route has already been laid out and this piece will not repeat it.

The rear is Jianxing Rd.

One minute from the exit there is a massage house; the street is short, quiet, thinly shopped, and easier to park on late at night than the front. The two sides are separated by the tracks — seven or eight minutes on foot to get around — and they feel like two different towns.

Before the last train: an appetite with a deadline

If you are catching a train, supper has to be settled before eleven. TRA Zhongli’s last trains north and south both fall around midnight; the exact minute is whatever the TRA timetable says, and you should not trust any number written in an article, including this one.

In that window the most reliable food around the front of the station is snack-level: noodle counters, braised snacks, fried chicken, convenience-store oden, NT$150 to NT$300 a head. No stall names here — station-front supper stalls turn over quickly, and a name written today is wrong next year. The area and the category hold; the stall does not.

To sit down for something hot with a drink, an izakaya is the right answer for this hour. 長居亭創作酒処 日本料理/居酒屋/最後加點時間23:59 at No. 103 Qihe 1st St puts its last-order time in its own name — six hundred reviews at 4.4 — and for anyone racing a train it is the most honest venue in town: sit down at 11:30 and you can still order. 叁匠居酒屋 (Sanjiang Izakaya) at No. 120-5 Sec. 2 Zhongyang W. Rd has over a thousand reviews, 鳥一番居酒屋 at No. 28 Datong Rd around six hundred and seventy; both within ten minutes’ walk of the front exit. The full list is in the Zhongli bar guide.

Having drunk, do not think “it was only beer”. Drinking is fine for the person catching a train. It is the person driving who has the problem.

After the last train has gone

Missed it.

That is a different night — and frankly, an easier one than the night spent watching the clock.

Kitchens close progressively after midnight; past one, hot food comes down to convenience stores and a handful of stalls that stay up, so go by what is actually open. What the station front can still offer narrows to three things: drink, massage, sing. Small.Kitto 去哪酒吧 in the basement of No. 552 Yanping Rd has five hundred-odd reviews at 4.9 and cocktails at NT$300 to NT$450; Side By Side Coffee & Bar at No. 35-2 Jianguo Rd holds a perfect score across forty-odd reviews, small and quiet, and sitting alone there is not awkward.

To sing, 歡唱天地卡拉ok in the basement of No. 645 Yanping Rd, four hundred-odd reviews, is the station-side option rather than the SOGO one; Cashbox and Kai Yue over by SOGO are a ten-minute walk, compared in the Zhongli KTV guide.

Massage belongs to the rear of the station. 中壢足旅養生行館 at No. 8 Jianxing Rd is one minute from the rear exit with five hundred reviews; on the same street, 天泰足體養生館 thai massage at No. 58 and Thai sabai massage 泰舒服按摩館 at No. 78 are small houses at or near a perfect score. On the front side, 謙守足體按摩行館-中央店(原天川養生會館) at Nos. 73–75 Sec. 1 Zhongyang W. Rd is close to 2,800 reviews, and 依善泰式按摩บ้านอีสานนวดไทย at No. 59 Zhongshan Rd sits at a perfect score across eight hundred-odd. Forty minutes of foot work runs around NT$600, a two-hour full body NT$1,200 to NT$1,500, per each shop’s own price board. The Zhongli massage and spa guide lists them all.

What to talk you out of

Do not come to the station front on a Sunday night looking for a crowd.

On weekdays after eleven the front stalls pack up earlier than on Friday and Saturday, and earlier still on Sunday; the “station front until three or four” night exists on Friday and Saturday only, and other days will disappoint. Once the northeast monsoon sets in, the wind cuts straight across the front plaza and the stalls retreat under the arcades, which trims the choice again — from December to February, go straight indoors.

Station supper is also not Zhongli’s best supper. On density and price, Zhongyuan Night Market wins; that is the students’ ground, a bit over ten minutes by car. The station wins on exactly one thing: it stays up latest.

Getting home

Once the last train has gone, three ways remain. The taxi rank is on the front plaza — flag one down. Ride apps carry a late-night surcharge but arrive within minutes. If you drove here and drank, a designated driver around the station costs a few hundred dollars; do not do the arithmetic on that.

Airport MRT A23 Zhongli sits beside the front exit; its last train is likewise whatever the official timetable says, and it usually stops before TRA does. Do not treat it as a fallback.

For the whole district laid out on one page, see the Zhongli guide.

FAQ

When is the last train from Zhongli station?

Both northbound and southbound last trains fall around midnight. Check the TRA timetable directly rather than trusting any number in an online article. Airport MRT A23 Zhongli usually stops earlier than TRA; again, go by the official notice.

What is there to eat near Zhongli station late at night?

Before eleven it is snack-level food: noodle counters, braised snacks, fried chicken, convenience-store hot food, NT$150 to NT$300 a head. To sit down with a drink, izakayas within ten minutes' walk of the front exit take orders until about 11:30. Kitchens close progressively after midnight; past one, hot food is down to convenience stores and a few stalls — go by what is open.

What is the difference between the front and rear of the station?

The front faces Zhongzheng Rd and Zhongyang W. Rd — the commercial side, brightest lights, most stalls. The rear is Jianxing Rd: short street, few shops, a massage house one minute from the exit, and easier parking late. The two sides are separated by the tracks, seven or eight minutes' walk around.

What can I still do after missing the last train?

Three things: drink, get a massage, sing. The bars and karaoke on Yanping Rd and the foot-massage shops on Jianxing Rd and Sec. 1 Zhongyang W. Rd run late; forty minutes of foot work is around NT$600. If you want hot food, do not wait — go to a convenience store first.

How do I get home from Zhongli station late at night?

The taxi rank is on the front plaza; flag one down. Ride apps carry a late-night surcharge but arrive within minutes. If you drove and drank, designated drivers cost a few hundred dollars around the station area — do not economise on that.
